Calgary Food Trucks in the News

A new round of media buzz is happening in Calgary–this time over the number of licenses being issued to new food trucks. Just over a year into the City of Calgary’s pilot project there are 34 food trucks on the street, with 10 more pending approval. What do you think, is this enough food trucks or should the city keep granting licenses? Either way, we’re not going anywhere. Perogies to the People! Ani Lorak: The Ukrainian Britney Spears

The Perogy Boyz will be boyz. On our day off I started poking around on the office computer and discovered that the browser history had not been cleared. Much to my surprise, there was nothing scandalous at all (this would be a gross violation of our policy… that nobody has read anyways). I did find one interesting tidbit of information, however, that I wanted to share with you perogy-lovers. It seems that there is a Ukrainian pop star that many compare to Britany Spears. Now, the one thing that you will notice is that she is brunette, but when we line up comparisons we can actually make a compelling case: Ani Lorak: pop singer, actress & mother Britney Spears: pop … Read More

Perogy Boyz 1, Winter 0

When winter started to rear its ugly head we had a decision to make: go to our families’ winter homes on the shores of the Black Sea or press on and keep bringing the people of Calgary perogies. We decided we couldn’t leave our girl frozen and cold during the winter months and took it as a personal challenge to remain open all winter. These were our concerns: – Will this truck that we picked up on Hollywood Boulevard (like Pretty Woman) survive winter? – Will our staff moan about being too cold? – Will people leave their homes/offices to stand on the street corner (like Pretty Woman)? Turns out that a little insulation on the pipes, new gloves … Read More

If there’s one thing we’ve noticed about doing TV in Calgary it’s that when the Perogy Boyz come around everyone and says hi. At first we thought maybe it’s because we’re so darned good looking but it turns out they all want a perogy. Enjoy by clicking here or the image below.

Perogy Boyz in the Globe & Mail

Food Trucks Ride Cool Factor By Jessica Leeder: Published October Friday October 21st Cheaper startup costs lure wannabe restaurateurs to the mobile side A food trend sweeping North America is luring entrepreneurs out of their boxes and into much smaller, aluminum-clad ones. On wheels. Popularized by the Food Network show Eat St. [http://eatst.foodnetwork.ca], trucks that specialize in serving up gourmet curbside grub – everything from artisan grilled cheese sandwiches and perogies to lamb’s tongue – are increasingly pulling creative, business-minded foodies into the streets. While some owners are launching second careers, others see the food trucks as a low-risk way to road test their dream restaurant concept. Twitter-fuelled lineups have been known to stretch several city blocks during weekday lunch … Read More
